Future Deja Vu stands out with its unique approach to creating a living space that reflects the future. The designer uses frame-like light strips to create virtual partitions, resulting in a visual effect reminiscent of sci-fi movies. The centerpiece of the design is a rotatable sofa, which adds a touch of flexibility to the space.
The design prioritizes variability and flexibility, anticipating the needs of the homeowner as they evolve. Private areas, such as the master bedroom, a room for the homeowner's parents, and a guestroom that can also serve as a potential children's room, are carefully configured. In the public areas, a central walkway acts as the axis for the open concept, while a multi-faceted sofa connects the living room, study, and kitchen area with an island. The use of light strips, reflective black glass, and mirror-like materials creates a techy vibe, while the gray paint covering the entire space adds an elegant and warm humanistic texture. Vibrant colors like black, blue, and red are strategically incorporated to enhance the contemporary aesthetic.
The design specifications of Future Deja Vu emphasize decentralization, allowing the multi-faceted sofa to serve as the pivot for maximum flexibility in the living room, study, and dining kitchen area. The light strips form virtual facades and partitions, creating a suspended visual effect that transports inhabitants to a futuristic world. The contrasting configuration of furniture, combined with the color scheme, creates a simplistic yet sophisticated humanistic atmosphere. The neutral gray tone provides a blank canvas for the homeowner to personalize the space with soft décor in the future.
Interacting with Future Deja Vu is an experience in itself. The public areas are completely open, with the multi-faceted sofa acting as the central point for flexible use of the space. Light strips outline the boundaries of each area, creating a visual transition between the virtual and physical worlds. When the lights are on, the space resembles a window into the virtual world, showcasing the beauty of home living. When the lights are off, the design transforms into a contemporary art museum, ready to be infused with the warmth of home living in the future. The dining kitchen area features a ceiling covered in black glass and an island with light strips and reflective surfaces, creating a virtual, sci-fi visual effect and showcasing the extendibility and unique charm of the space.
Future Deja Vu was brought to life in Taipei, with the project starting in July and finishing in August 2022. The design process involved extensive research to address the existing and unknown needs of the space. By establishing the configuration of private areas first and then focusing on the design of public areas, the designer ensured a harmonious balance between function and form.
This visionary design has been recognized for its excellence and creativity. Future Deja Vu was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2023. This prestigious award celebrates designs that demonstrate resourcefulness, technical skill, and contribute to improving the quality of life. Future Deja Vu truly embodies the essence of art, science, design, and technology, making it a remarkable addition to the world of residential design.
